Back Meatloaf Memories by Liz Gilbert Meatloaf Memories By Liz Gilbert When I was a little girl, my family would take summer trips up to see my grandparents. Their house was on a lake, in the middle of nowhere, and I loved the drive up; all the beautiful trees, the sun glistening on the lake, and all the amazing wildlife. But, the part that I loved the most was our first night dinner ritual. Every time we came, my grandmother made her meatloaf recipe. And when I was finally tall enough to reach the counter she taught me how to make it too. There's something so simple, and comforting about meatloaf. So after my family had unloaded the bags from the car, and we had gotten settled, I would go down to the kitchen and my grandma and I would make the meatloaf. Usually, she'd call out the ingredient and amount, and I would run around the kitchen, gathering everything together. I loved to stir, and when it came time to our in the oatmeal, she would always, stand next to me and shake it in, while I stirred. I remember the first time my father comments to my grandmother about how good the meatloaf was that night.
