(VLE) is a software system designed to support teaching and learning in an educational setting, as distinct from A virtual learning environment managed learning environment (MLE) where the focus is on management. A chemistry virtual learning environment normally works over the internet and provide a collection of tools such as those for assessment, communication, uploading of content return of student's work, peer assessment, questionnaires, tracking tools etc. e-learning is a type of education where the medium of instruction is computer technology. Many sites provide a facility for learning chemistry online using computer technology where no in-person interaction may take place in some instances. Such mode of learning chemistry is defined as a planned teaching / learning experience that uses a wide spectrum of technologies mainly internet to reach learners at a distance. Lately in most of the Universities, learning chemistry online is used to define specific mode to attend a course or programmes of study where the students rarely, if ever, attend face-to-face or for on-campus access to educational facilities, because they study on-line.
The worldwide e-learning industry is growing day-by-day. Developments in internet and multimedia technologies are the basic enabler of learning chemistry online, with content, technologies and services being identified as the three key sectors of e-learning industry. Millions of students are participating in learning chemistry on-line in United States and UK alone. Many higher education, for profit-institutions, now offer online classes in chemistry. Reports, based on a poll of academic leaders, says that students generally appear to be at least as satisfied with their chemistry online classes as they are with traditional ones. Properly trained staff are hired to work with students on-line. These staff members are able to not only understand the content area, but also be highly trained in the use of computer tools and internet to teach students chemistry on-line. E-learning is naturally suited to distant learning, and flexible learning, but can also be used in conjunction with face-to-face teaching. In addition, several universities offer online chemistry courses, including online textbook purchase. Many online chemistry web sites offer learning scenarios, worksheets and interactive exercises for children. Such online web sites offer many interactive methods to students learning chemistry online, such as bulletin boards, chat rooms, instant messaging, videoconferencing, and discussion threads. Such web based training is usually a self-paced learning medium though some systems allow for online testing and evaluation at specific times.
It is possible to use various pedagogical approaches for learning chemistry online which include:
The traditional pedagogy of instruction which is curriculum focused, and is developed by centralized educating group.
Particularly well afforded by use of discussion forums, blogs, wiki and online collaborative activities.
Processes involved in learning as well as how brain works. And also focuses on emotional aspects of learning, like motivation, engagement and fun.
Many online chemistry sites make use of interactive whiteboards, chat and VOIP technology that allows audio and video sharing.
Thus learning chemistry online can be fun.
