Kids Costumes : Get the kids involved
by Dazza Walker

Kids love making things with their own hands, including costumes. The two costumes that follow, a sunflower and a queenbee, which so easy to produce that even the kids can make their own which gives them more involvement and ceativeness.

The queen bee will consist of:

An old black turtle neck or jumper
width yellow sticky tape
A Hair Band
2 Pipe Cleaners
2 Small Foam Balls (available at craft and dollar stores)
To make the body you would simply wrap the yellow tape around the jumper for the stripes and to give it that fat queenbee look you can stuff foam or an equivelent up the jumper for that rounder look.

To make the antennae twist 2 pipe cleaners to the hair band and then attach the foam balls to the end of the pipe cleaners. For an extra touch you can twist the ends of the pipecleaner around a pen for example to give it a spiral look.

To make a sunflower you will need ...

1 Green bin liner or old green clothes
Several Sheets of yellow Paper
Scotch Tape

To make the body, Cut head and arm holes out of the green bin liner if not using old clothes. To make the head of the flower, cut a 2-inch wide strip of paper and wrapped it around your child's head from the top of her head to her chin, being sure to create a comfortable fit.
Next, you want to cut out lots of big yellow petals from your paper or card etc and attach these to the band we made earlier around your childs face using your sticky tape or play glue if you prefer. You can have as many petals as you like depending on the size of them or whether or not you overlap them.

After these are made your child will a) look fantastic and b) have a sense of achievement which is so important to kids knowing they helped produce it.
