Get Flight Upgrades this Summer
by Jonathan Kittley

Summer is gaining on you very quickly and with vacation plans comes ideas to ensure those flight upgrades. All around you people are preparing for that long anticipated summer get away. Everyone is happily looking forward to this time of relaxation and fun. As gas prices are through the roof right now, many people are finding it to be cheaper to fly than to drive to their holiday destination. With so many wanting to fly this summer, flight upgrades may be a bit hard to come by.
When trying to get the best deal, you could start with your travel agent. As soon as you know what you want to do for your vacation, contact your travel agent to see what sort of specials may be available. Frequently, travel agencies will have some deals that you can take advantage of if they get to book your travel plans, which could include flight upgrades this summer.
If you are able, book your flights for off peak hours. Since business travelers fly mostly during the weekdays, it is next to impossible to get any flight upgrades. However, the weekends can be more open with more availability. If you are also able to fly at odd hours, this increases your chances for enjoying a first class seat. So while you may not be in love with the idea of taking the red eye, it might not be too bad if you are being pampered in first class.
Always be polite when trying to get flight upgrades. If you are mean and demanding to the ticket agent, you can kiss your first class seat goodbye. Another thing to remember is to ask quietly. If the ticket agent feels that someone else hearing you get an upgrade could cause problems, it will probably not be offered.
Frequent flyer miles can add up if you fly a lot. Saving those miles can help make your summer traveling much nicer and also afford you those coveted flight upgrades. Be sure to see if your mileage program makes you eligible for these flight upgrades. Then save all of the miles for summer use.
These suggestions may not guarantee that you will get your flight upgrade, but you won't know unless you try. They would not be suggestions if they had not already worked for countless numbers of people.
