Back Kakapo Encounter Tours by Brian Hore With the world population at 6.7 billion May 8th 2008. The world population of the Kakapo Parrot stands at just 91 at the most recent count, up from 86. The public has another chance at seeing this rare and endangered bird from August 12th to October 23rd 2008 on Ulva Island which is close to Stewart Island, New Zealand. Access is by charter boat from Stewart Island. For everyone that goes on the Kakapo Encounter Tours, part of the fee goes toward helping the survival of these rare and endagered flightless parrots.
