Back The Proper Way To Use The robot.txt File by Jimmy Whisenhunt Web hosting is a big business and can offer many services depending on what you plan to achieve from your website. Some web hosting services are actually free but they place adverts on your sites, which might be cost effective but takes away your flexibility of what you want to do with it and you are dancing to someone elses tune. For a fee you can get a service which gives you far more scope to do what you want and, depending on your experience, also offer good assistance as well as increased bandwidth which will be invaluable when starting off. The three hosting catagories you will come across are free hosting, shared hosting and dedicated hosting. Free web hosting is the simplest and as you can imagine the most primitive types of web hosting. Your sites will be supported by adverts (where the host makes back its money) and are perfect for starting off with small ideas to see how they are greeted before any financial input. Your domain will be in the form of a subdomain (ie yourdomain.hostname.com). The down side of this is the poor support and email accounts etc so you will get to the point when a paid service is needed. Shared hosting is the main and most popular service offered to the would be web master.Shared web hosting, as the name might suugest, offers the chance of hosting multiple sites on the same server. Shared web hosting is also a good choice because the user also get services such as multiple email addresses and increased bandwidth though different companies will offer different packages to stay a step ahead of the competition. It goes without saying that more services are offered with this type of hosting compared to the free hosting. Finally we come across dedicated web hosting which more of a service to those bigger fish who demand higher bandwidth and large storage. In dedicated servers, users are not limited to a certain number of databases and e-mail addresses. Users in this type of plan usually receive a very high amount of bandwidth in comparison to other hosting types. Typically speaking a user can expect to get 500 to 1,000GB of monthly bandwidth. When looking for a web host, it is important to consider the purpose of the web site and what one’s capabilities are. As far as pricing the right package you get what you pay for and that few dollars more might give you that support that makes all the difference and makes life alot easier. It shouldn't be as daunting as it looks.
