Among the usual things that we see on websites today are animated buttons, animated banners, animated cursor, and animated images. Now these flashy buttons, images and full flash websites are good things for enticing more users to visit our sites. These things can attract users and get them to visit more but embedding a lot of these things in a website is over-kill.

Don't forget, you have only 10 seconds to grab people's attention. The longer visitors have to wait for your site to load, the less likely they are to stick around and find out about your products or services.

Reason #3: Too Much of a Good Thing

Navigation bars are made for visitors to easily make it around the website. But because of some people trying to make a unique and stylish website apart from their competitors, navigation bars became too sophisticated for visitors to use.

Navigation bars that I’ve seen today are those that have some impressive animations in them. There are navigation bars which are hidden on images so when you hover you mouse cursor, the navigation bar will then appear from the other side. There are also some navigation bars that are located way down the webpage to give way for some flash presentation or images. These are some of the biggest mistakes that a web designer would ever make.

As I’ve said earlier, people don’t take much notice on how grand or how majestic a website looks like. All that they’re concerned about is getting to where they want to be and how fast they’ll get there. This is why navigations are built, to make it easy for our users to navigate through the site.

Just make is simple and obvious, because too much of a good thing isn’t very helpful in this situation.

Always remember that these people have much time to research about a product or information they needed, but less time to spend on navigating a single website. If they see in first glance that this website can’t provide them the information they needed, then they would likely leave and never come back. So make sure that visitors will stay longer enough for them to locate what they want, and for you to get your well deserved reward.
